Communications Department

The District 71 Communications Department supports clear, consistent, and accurate communication between the District and its community.

Communications are coordinated across appropriate district resources, including external communications support,  policy guidance, and legal review to ensure information shared publicly or in response to inquiries is accurate, timely, and aligned with district practices and applicable requirements.

The Communications Department may also coordinate and respond to media inquiries on behalf of the District.

To promote consistency and thoughtful review, some inquiries may be addressed through summarized responses rather than point-by-point replies. Response timelines may vary depending on the nature and complexity of the request.

Communication Guidelines and Response Timelines

Student-specific or urgent matters requiring prompt attention will be routed to the appropriate administrator and addressed as soon as practicable, generally within 48 hours. Once the immediate student-related concern has been addressed, any additional follow-up questions related to broader district policies or practices will be handled through the District’s non-urgent communication process described below.

Non-urgent, general, or policy-level matters will be reviewed and responded to by the District 71 Communications Department. Responses to non-urgent matters are typically provided within five business days, depending on the nature and complexity of the issues raised and any necessary consultation.

Given the volume and scope of issues that may be raised, the District may not be able to respond to correspondence point-by-point or address every individual question or request in a single communication. District responses will focus on clarifying the District’s position and applicable practices. Once the District has clearly stated its position on a non-urgent topic, the District may decline to engage in further dialogue on the same issue.
